Lois graduated from the PA program at the University of Texas Allied Health Science Center in Dallas in 1986. She has worked everything from Hospitalist to Dialysis to Family Practice and Urgent Care. Lois provided care at the RMA from 1992 through 2009, but then moved to northern Missouri with her family and continued to provide care in a rural health clinic for the next 12 years. She is now “semi-retired”, filling in for clinics that are short-handed, still calling Missouri home because that is where her kids and grandkids live. One of Lois’ hobbies is playing pickleball!

Wharton.

On the personal side, Dr. Tijerina was born and raised in Seymour, Texas. She and her husband, Nathan, have been together 21 years. They have two children, Lila (7) and Newt (5). Odette Elliston is the current Director of Behavioral Health at Rice Medical Center. Odette has devoted most of her professional career to working with children and families. For the last 10 years she worked with the Department of State Health Services as a social worker. In the last 3 years she has also worked as a program therapist with Houston Behavioral Health Hospital specializing in adolescent mental health. Recently, Odette has transitioned her focus to the geriatric population, while working with the Lighthouse program at Rice Medical Center. In addition, to being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she is also a Certified Autism Specialist.
Odette is interested in early childhood education, rural health, and adult literacy. Odette is from Jamaica and migrated to the US at the age of 19, to attend Prairie View A & M University. Odette is still actively involved and supports the early childhood center in Jamaica that she attended as a child.
